Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Pharmacy Intern for the Central Pharmacy to support pharmacy services under direct supervision. You will perform a variety of duties including medication dispensing, prescription intake, and medication reconciliation in a hospital setting.

The role emphasizes inventory control, customer service, and maintaining accurate pharmacy records while ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. Training and professional development are provided as part of the internship.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an APCE accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program.
• Massachusetts Pharmacy Intern Licensure.
• Completion of first professional year from an accredited pharmacy program.

Responsibilities

• Picks, delivers, and refills medication for automated dispensing machines.
• Delivers bulk medications and IV solutions to the nursing units.
• Conducts inspections of medication rooms in patient care areas.
• Monitors refrigerator temperatures.
• Assists with transport of schedule II - V controlled substances.
• Requests and accepts prescriptions from a prescriber or prescriber's agent.
• Assists patients with prescription intake and over-the-counter sales.
• Compounds sterile and/or non-sterile products.
• Assists with medication reconciliation for admitted patients.
• Returns expired or discontinued medications to the pharmacy
• Triages phone calls and requests to the appropriate pharmacy staff member.
• Maintains collaborative relationship with peers and colleagues to effectively achievement department goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
• May cross train to work in more than one area of the pharmacy, if applicable.
