As members of a High Reliability Organization (HRO), every employee should practice CHAMP behavior and strive to make patient safety a top priority. The pharmacy intern provides operational support in the processing, production, inventory, and distribution of pharmaceuticals and related products. The intern actively participates in clinical and administrative functions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist to augment their education and gain practical experience in their future role as a pharmacist.
Interns are encouraged to participate in educational activities within the Pharmacy Department, including journal clubs, clinical case conferences, patient case presentations, disease‑state discussions, rotations through clinical areas, shadowing a clinical specialist, and performing daily supervisory activities such as multidisciplinary rounding, order verification, drug‑information queries, and patient counseling. Interns may also complete clinical/operational projects in collaboration with pharmacy leadership and/or pharmacy residents.

High school diploma required; must be currently enrolled in an accredited College of Pharmacy program or a pre‑pharmacy program.
Inpatient hospital pharmacy experience is preferred but not required.
Must be registered or eligible for registration as a Pharmacy Intern in the state of employment (CT or RI).
Proficiency in mathematical calculations, accuracy, problem‑solving, attention to detail, and computer applications (word processing and spreadsheets). Ability to learn quickly in a fast‑paced environment, perform pharmaceutical compounding and labeling, and troubleshoot basic technology functions. Demonstrates flexibility, teamwork, and strong communication skills with customers and team members.
Physical demand: Must be available to work rotating shifts, weekends, evenings, holidays, and inclement weather. Able to lift and transport light boxes up to 50 pounds and remain on feet for the majority of the shift. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
