Job summary

Mount Carmel Health System, part of Trinity Health, is seeking a Pharmacy Intern to support pharmacists in delivering timely medication therapy in a hospital setting. The role involves preparation, dispensing, sterile compounding, inventory management, and clinical duties under supervision to build your pharmacy career.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and in good standing at an accredited College of Pharmacy program.
• Current licensure as a Pharmacy Intern with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy or eligible to obtain one prior to employment.
• Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the technical and professional functions required in preparation, dispensing, record keeping, counseling, and delivery of medications using proper aseptic technique, calculations, documentation and use of clinical resources.
• Prepare intravenous admixtures and sterile products, including chemotherapy, using proper aseptic technique.
• Compound medications by proper technique and calculations (ointments, creams, oral liquids, enteral feeds).
• Assist in filling orders/prescriptions and preparing sterile products; label medications and maintain records per policy and law.
• Assist in providing drug information to patients and health care professionals; advise on proper methods and cautions.
• Prepare and restock drugs for automated dispensing cabinets.
• Perform clinical duties under supervision, including medication reconciliation, adverse drug event reviews, renal dosing, MARs, patient rounds with physicians, and education presentations.
• Assist in managing pharmacy inventory and handling expired or non-formulary items.
