Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Detroit is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to coordinate operations within the pharmacy, focusing on automation, medication dispensing systems, and regulatory readiness. You will work with pharmacy and nursing teams, monitor controlled substances, and support training materials and onboarding for new staff.

Requires a high school diploma or GED, MI pharmacy technician license, and at least two years of inpatient or applicable pharmacy experience, with weekend/holiday shifts

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• At least two years of inpatient pharmacy technician experience, or two years of pharmacy technician experience in other settings.
• Two years of experience with automated pharmacy dispensing systems preferred.
• PC skills as needed to perform job functions.
• Strong verbal/written skills; availability for on-call system support.
• Ability to work designated shifts, including weekends and holidays.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
• Flexibility to deal with ever-changing health care environment.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Provides all services and functions provided by Pharmacy Technicians as necessary and assigned.
• Act as a full-participants project teams, interacting with other departmental representatives to assure operational objectives are met.
• Liaises with Nursing Management to monitor and communicate medication discrepancies with aid to resolution.
• Provides usage reports to Nursing Management regarding controlled drug dispensing trends to monitor for diversion and coordinates interdisciplinary meetings.
• Primary resource for creating user IDs and passwords for automated dispensing systems; maintains user IDs in the database/server.
• Primary contact for issues related to department IS and automated dispensing systems for staff and vendors.
• Maintains drug database with additions/deletions within automated dispensing systems.
• Monitors restocking processes for automated devices and monitoring expirations.
• Monitors narcotic accounting discrepancies and communicates with leadership.
• Works with leadership to design and implement process changes in focus areas.
• Develops training materials and serves as primary trainer for new staff.
• Backs up commodities specialists/buyers; assists with staff scheduling.
