Job summary

Lumicera is seeking a Pharmacist in Charge to lead our Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Services department in Madison, WI. You will oversee daily clinical decision-making, prescription fulfillment operations, and ensure regulatory compliance across state and federal requirements.

The role requires proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced mail-order setting, with a relocation bonus of 10k for candidates outside a 50-mile radius.

Qualifications

  • PharmD or BS degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy required.
  • Current, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Pharmacist in the state of residence, or ability to gain reciprocity within 4 months.
  • 5+ years as a licensed Pharmacist required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in a leadership role with direct reports required.
  • 1+ year of professional experience as a Specialty Pharmacist strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Specialty Pharmacy drugs including REMS and Limited Distribution Products best practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of inventory control; state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the legal operation of a pharmacy required.
  • 3+ years’ experience managing specialty pharmacy mail operations, cold-chain shipping, or limited distribution networks preferred.
  • Experience with accreditation (URAC/ACHC) and regulatory inspections (BOP, DEA if applicable) preferred.
  • Familiarity with REMS programs, hazardous drug handling (USP <800>), and specialty payer requirements preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma training or equivalent continuous improvement experience preferred.
  • Multi-state licensure experience and/or oversight of non-resident pharmacy requirements preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily specialty mail pharmacy fulfillment operations, including dispensing, RPh verification, shipping, cold-chain handling, and delivery issue resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal/state pharmacy laws, accreditation standards (URAC/ACHC), HIPAA, and internal policies and SOPs.
  • Manage staff scheduling, training, coaching, engagement and performance management for pharmacists, technicians, and support staff.
  • Drive quality and safety programs: medication error prevention, incident reporting, CAPA, and continuous process improvement.
  • Support inventory management for specialty drugs, limited distribution products (LDPs), REMS programs, controlled substances, and hazardous drugs.
  • Maintain cold-chain integrity and develop procedures for packing, shipping, temperature excursions, and returns.
  • Monitor operational KPIs and implement improvements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and negotiate service levels as needed.
  • Prepare for and lead audits/inspections; maintain documentation, training records, and regulatory readiness.
  • Support implementation and optimization of pharmacy systems (PMS), workflow tools, e-prescribing interfaces, and reporting.
