Job summary

Permit Power is seeking a Permitting Policy Director to co-lead our agenda to remove bureaucratic barriers for residential rooftop solar, plug-in solar, and home batteries including streamlining permitting, inspection, homeowner association approvals, and codes and standards.

In partnership with Permit Power’s advocacy staff, you’ll serve as a core part of our team to drive legislative change, lead and participate in coalition efforts, and be an internal expert and external thought leader on

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in policy development, advocacy, or regulatory affairs focused on solar, permitting, or government efficiency.
  • Track record of building and executing policy agendas within state legislatures.
  • Technical understanding of electrical, structural, or fire safety concepts relevant to permitting.
  • Experience testifying before policymakers and developing materials for them.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into clear policy language for varied audiences.
  • Strong relationships with energy policy groups, building industry, and think tanks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Permit Power's permitting policy agenda and drive streamlined processes.
  • Draft and vet permitting bill language; create advocacy materials and briefings.
  • Lobby legislators and executive officials; negotiate with opposition.
  • Build and manage coalitions with builders, solar industry, and think tanks.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on permitting rules, HOA issues, and codes.
  • Audit policy implementation and address friction points to improve adoption.
