Job summary

Permit Power is seeking a Permitting Policy Director in the United States to co-lead our agenda to remove bureaucratic barriers for residential rooftop solar and batteries, including streamlining permitting, inspections, HOAs, and building codes. You will work with advocacy staff to drive legislative change and coalition efforts, reporting to the Chief of Policy.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in policy development, legislative advocacy, and/or regulatory affairs related to solar, construction, permitting, or government efficiency.
  • Track record of successfully developing and executing policy agendas that lead to tangible outcomes, particularly within the state legislative arenas.
  • Sufficient technical expertise with electrical, structural, or fire safety concepts to shape permitting and inspection policies.
  • Experience testifying before policymakers and developing materials for legislators.
  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions with home builders, solar industry, think tanks and others.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear language for policymakers and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Permit Power's permitting policy agenda and execute a comprehensive policy plan.
  • Oversee the bill-to-law cycle: draft and vet bill language; produce advocacy materials; lobby legislators; negotiate with opponents.
  • Build and manage coalitions with stakeholders to broaden support for permitting reform.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on permitting rules, regulations, and cutting-edge policies.
  • Evaluate compliance and implementation to identify friction points and refine solutions.
  • Manage external research and consultants to support the permitting policy agenda.
