Job summary

Permit Power is seeking a Permitting Policy Director to co-lead our agenda to remove bureaucratic barriers for residential rooftop solar, plug-in solar, and home batteries. You will drive legislative change, lead coalitions, and serve as the internal and external expert on permit streamlining across diverse states.

We offer a fully remote team based in the U.S., with a salary range of 135,000–160,000 USD per year, comprehensive benefits, and paid parental leave.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in policy development, legislative advocacy, and/or regulatory affairs related to solar, construction, permitting, or government efficiency.
• Track record of developing and executing policy agendas that lead to tangible outcomes in state legislatures.
• Technical understanding of electrical, structural, and/or fire safety concepts to shape permitting/inspection policies, building codes, and product safety standards.
• Experience testifying before policymakers and developing materials for them.
• Demonstrated ability to build coalitions with stakeholders to achieve policy goals.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear language for policymakers, advocates, and the public.

Responsibilities

• Develop Permit Power's permitting policy agenda and execute a comprehensive policy plan.
• Oversee the bill-to-law cycle: draft and vet permit language, produce advocacy materials, and lobby legislators.
• Build and drive coalitions with home builders, solar industry, think tanks, and others.
• Serve as the subject matter expert on permitting rules, regulations, and policies.
• Evaluate compliance and implementation by jurisdictions and refine solutions to reduce friction.
• Manage external research and consultants to support the policy agenda.
