Job summary

The City of Ventura is seeking a motivated Permit Services Technician to join our Community Development Department. Under general supervision, you will process building and construction permits, issue permits, maintain records, and serve as the first point of contact for applicants about applications, permitting processes, requirements, and fees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1 year public interaction/permit experience; familiarity with records management and computer usage is desirable.
• Experience or coursework in construction technology and plan review is desirable.
• ICC Permit Technician certification (or equivalent) is desirable for Technician II.

Responsibilities

• Process building and construction permits efficiently, ensuring approvals, accurate fees, and payments.
• Answer questions related to permits, fees, codes, and Building and Safety procedures.
• Assist contractors, builders and the public with permit applications and required documentation.
• Review permit applications and plans for completeness and route documents for review.
• Resolve customer concerns, track records, and escalate complex matters when needed.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and support office operations.
