Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to manage produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and related perishables. You will assist with inventory control, merchandising presentation, and safe operations while ensuring strong customer service and compliance with food-handling rules.

You will train associates in freshness, pricing, and proper food handling, and collaborate with Store Manager to meet store goals and protect company assets. A high school diploma is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including percentages.
• Experience with cash register functions to generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications in food handling.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager with cash accountability, key control, and security practices.
• Maintain perishable stock levels using produce, meat, dairy, and bakery planning tools.
• Train staff in proper stocking, freshness, and pricing standards for perishables.
• Record perishable markdowns and take corrective action to minimize recurrences.
• Ensure customers' needs are addressed efficiently and maintain sanitation standards.
