Job summary

South Shore Health System is seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to support the perioperative team in a diverse operating room environment for both adult and pediatric patients. The role includes collaboration with surgeons, nurses and assistants, with participation in a Level II Trauma Center and a focus on safety and efficient patient care.

Qualifications include completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program, OR experience, and certification within 12 months.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a formal accredited surgical technician training program preferred.
• Copy of Surgical Technology program certificate required.
• Must be certified within 12 months of completing a Surgical Technology program.
• All Surg Techs who did not work prior to 7/1/13 are required to be certified.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
• Assists in ensuring aseptic technique and sterile environment throughout procedures.
• Counts sponges, needles and instruments with the RN according to department policies.
• Positioning of patients under the guidance of the RN or surgeon, maintaining patient safety.
• Acts as a preceptor for new staff and supports OR protocol across teams.
