Job summary

SCA Health, part of Optum, is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the PreOp/PACU role. You will assess patients before and after surgery, interpret monitors, apply appropriate discharge scoring, and develop individualized perianesthesia care plans.

The position requires a nursing degree, state licensure, and certifications (BLS/BCLS, ACLS, PALS when applicable). The role emphasizes patient safety, education, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
• One year of Pre Operative or PACU experience.
• Medical/surgical nursing experience.
• Current state licensure to practice.
• BLS/BCLS within 90 days of employment.
• ACLS within 90 days of employment.
• PALS certification if pediatric care is included.

Responsibilities

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA.
• Assess patient's preoperative and postoperative status per policies, including cardiovascular, respiratory, nervous, hemodynamic, pain and mental status.
• Interpret information from noninvasive and invasive monitors.
• Describe common disease pathophysiology and anesthesia-related physiology.
• Apply discharge criteria and Perianesthesia scoring systems as defined by policy.
• Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care and implement it.
• Prepare for and manage patient recovery from anesthesia across modalities (general, MAC, regional, local).
• Protect patient from injury, monitor wounds and tissue perfusion, and ensure normothermia postoperatively.
• Provide patient education, involve family, protect privacy, and collaborate with the team.
• Transfer care and provide concise hand-off reports to teammates; participate in quality improvement.

Education

Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing

Current state licensure to practice within good standings

ACLS Certification

PALS Certification (if pediatric care is included)

BLS/BCLS within 90 days of employment
