Job summary

Northern Michigan Surgical Suites is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for the Pre/Post Op role in a state-of-the-art ambulatory surgical center. You will provide perioperative nursing care across pre-op and post-op phases, ensuring patient safety and family education.

The position requires 2–5 years in PreOp/PACU or critical care, an unrestricted RN license, and current BLS/ALS/PALS credentials. Ambulatory center experience is strongly preferred and teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Must be a Registered Nurse with an unrestricted state license.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• 2–5 years of PreOp/PACU or Critical Care experience.
• Ambulatory surgical center experience strongly preferred.
• Current BLS, ALS and PALS certifications.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient management.
• Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
• Ability to adapt to changing patient conditions.
• Excellent teamwork and communication with staff, patients, and physicians.

Responsibilities

• Manage patients’ admission processes to preoperative department.
• Assess health status in pre-op and verify identification wristband.
• Ensure operative and informed consents are in order.
• Determine surgeon and procedure being carried out.
• Take and record vital stats to ensure readiness for surgery.
• Initiate IVs and inform patients about the procedure.
• Assess patients’ condition post-surgery.
• Monitor vitals within normal ranges.
• Log findings in patient files.
• Educate patients and families about procedures and medications.
• Move patients to rooms when ready.
• Intervene in post-operative emergencies.
• Record sedation levels and temperature.
• Manage blood/fluids and draw specimens.
• Maintain post-op space cleanliness.
• Change bandages and dress wounds.
