Job summary

The nurse will prepare for cases, maintain aseptic technique, and collaborate with the OR team to ensure patient safety and efficient turnover. Iowa RN licensure and BLS are required or expected soon after hire.

Qualifications

• Current or compact state license as a Registered Nurse (Iowa).
• Operating Room experience preferred.
• BLS certification within six weeks of hire (American Heart Association).
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training completed within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Scrubs and circulates on cases independently, with minimal direction.
• Prepares for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and OR staff.
• Maintains aseptic technique and a safe environment for patient and staff.
• Collects and analyzes data and assesses patient for nursing diagnoses.
• Communicates effectively with patient, staff, physicians and families.
• Maintains knowledge of equipment setup and function.
• Initiates and directs room turnover and cleanup.
