Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC seeks an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager – Perioperative Services to provide operational and clinical leadership within the Operating Room. This role partners with the OR Nurse Manager to oversee daily surgical operations, ensure safe case flow, and lead frontline nursing staff in delivering patient-centered care.

Responsibilities include coordinating staffing, supervising perioperative teams, ensuring regulatory readiness, and driving performance

Qualifications

• ADN is required for the role.
• BSN is preferred; if not held, must be completed within 3 years.
• Minimum 2 years of OR RN experience and 1 year of supervisory/leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily OR operations, ensure safe flow and on-time case starts.
• Develop staffing schedules, assignments, and on-call coverage.
• Supervise and coach perioperative staff; participate in performance management.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, Sterile Processing and leadership.
• Monitor events and safety risks per Just Culture.
• Support regulatory readiness and compliance with standards.
• Lead performance improvement initiatives and workflow optimization.
• Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and learning.
