Job summary

1X is seeking a perceptual systems engineer to own NEO's perception from initial prototypes to fleet deployment. You will develop vision systems that measure geometry, recover human and object pose, and reconstruct terrain for safe, capable navigation.

Your work will be used to drive real-world robot behavior, not just benchmarks. The role requires deep geometric vision expertise, experience with PyTorch/C++ codebases, and a track record of delivering perception capabilities on

Qualifications

• Proven track record of shipping perception systems on real robots.
• Experience training, evaluating, and deploying deep learning models for detection, depth, or pose estimation in PyTorch
• Deep experience with geometric vision, camera-based calibration including intrinsics & extrinsics
• Experience owning a capability end to end, from problem definition through deployment
• Strong Python and modern C++ in large shared codebases, with testing and code reviews
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience, or an advanced degree plus equivalent hands-on experience

Responsibilities

• Own perception for NEO from first prototype to fleet-wide deployment.
• Build vision systems that measure geometry, recover pose, and reconstruct terrain for navigation.
• Quantify impact on deployed robots rather than benchmarks.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to deliver safe, scalable perception.
• Define evaluation datasets and metrics to show perception improvements in real operation.
