Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health's SAGE Concord hospital in Concord, CA is hiring Relief Veterinary Technician for Emergency coverage. This casual, as-needed role supports the Emergency & Critical Care team, with opportunities to work alongside board-certified specialists and a multidisciplinary staff on one of Northern California's premier specialty hospitals.

You'll triage, monitor critically ill patients, administer medications, assist with procedures, and maintain records while enjoying flexible

Qualifications

• Casual, as-needed position designed for experienced veterinary professionals
• RVT license highly preferred
• Emergency or Specialty Veterinary experience required
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and client service skills
• Ability to obtain VACSP within 60 days of hire or transfer (not required for licensed RVTs)

Responsibilities

• Triage emergency patients and prioritize care based on medical urgency
• Monitor critically ill, unstable, and recovering patients
• Administer medications, IV fluids, oxygen therapy, CRIs, and other treatments
• Assist with emergency procedures, diagnostics, and patient stabilization
• Perform venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, and patient monitoring
• Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
• Communicate effectively with veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners
• Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are clean, stocked, and ready for use
• Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams
• Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture

$30.00–$40.00/hour (DOE) + $5.50/hour Shift Differential (6:00 PM–6:00 AM)

Whether you're a Registered Veterinary Technician or an experienced Senior Veterinary Assistant, you'll work alongside board-certified specialists, emergency clinicians, and an experienced multidisciplinary team in one of Northern California's premier specialty hospitals.

Relief Requirements: This is a casual, as-needed position designed for experienced veterinary professionals looking to pick up extra shifts. Relief team members are scheduled based on hospital needs and availability.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

What You Bring

• High school diploma required.
• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license highly preferred.
• Previous Emergency or Specialty Veterinary experience required.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and client service skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a California Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substance Permit (VACSP) within 60 days of hire or transfer (not required for licensed RVTs).
• Strong mathematical skills for calculating drug dosages, CRIs, client estimates, and invoices.
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and composure in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
