Job summary

Tandem Inc. is seeking a registered nurse for per diem shifts in the Topeka, Kansas area. The role focuses on direct patient care, assessment, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team across hospital and facility settings.

Qualifications

• Current and valid RN license.
• Current BLS and/or CPR certification.
• Recent nursing experience preferred; 2–3 years preferred for high-acuity settings such as ICU, ER, or Med-Surg.
• Knowledge of nursing procedures and protocols.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts with prolonged standing and safe patient handling.
• Ability to provide compassionate and reliable care.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different facility environments.

Responsibilities

• Collect information and assess a patient’s condition by taking vital signs and medical history, performing physical examinations and observations, and analyzing laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Monitor, record, and report patient responses and any changes in condition using EMR/EHR systems
• Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop, implement, and coordinate patient care plans
• Supervise licensed practical/vocational nurses, nurse assistants, and other support staff as needed
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and other treatments as prescribed
• Perform clinical procedures including wound care, specimen collection, and emergency response protocols
• Prepare shift handoff reports using SBAR or facility-specific tools to ensure continuity of care
• Advocate for the best interests of the patient and serve as a communicator between the patient and the healthcare team
• Educate patients and family members about health promotion, disease prevention, treatment procedures, and self-care management, and offer emotional support
• Safeguard PHI and maintain infection control standards using proper PPE
• Document and report safety events and ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility-mandated procedures
