Job summary

Keck Hospital of USC in Pasadena, CA, seeks a Laboratory Assistant for per diem, 8-hour day shifts. The role involves procuring blood samples, maintaining specimen integrity, and handling clerical duties within a union, non-exempt environment.

Responsibilities include venipuncture, receiving specimens, delivering blood products, processing and packaging specimens, and responding to lab inquiries. Requires CPT certification, phlebotomy training, and a year of phlebotomy experience in acute care

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent.
• Graduate from an accredited Phlebotomy Program.
• 1 year phlebotomy experience (preferably in acute care).
• Organizational/time management skills.
• Demonstrate excellent customer service behavior.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician - CPT (CA DPH).
• Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, obtain within 30 days (LA City only).

Responsibilities

• Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods in response to testing requests.
• Receives and screens specimens per guidelines.
• Delivers blood products to Surgery and specimens to the appropriate laboratory sections.
• Processes, distributes or packages all specimens received.
• Handles inquiries for lab results, specimen status and general information.
• Communicates with patients, co-workers and guests professionally.
• Adheres to Hospital and Department policies and procedures.
• Participates in the Department’s Quality Improvement program.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
