Job summary

Keck Medicine of USC Arcadia Hospital seeks a Lab Tech to perform venipuncture and processing of laboratory specimens in a full-time, day-shift role (4:30am to 1:00pm). This non-exempt, union position supports the Clinical and Anatomic Pathology areas with clerical tasks and materials management.

The role requires California Phlebotomy Certification (CPTI/CPTII) and BLS, with at least 1 year in a clinical lab preferred; HS diploma required. Arcadia location, 8-hour shift, union environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Two years of college with a major in biological sciences, chemistry or equivalent preferred.
• A minimum of one year experience in a clinical laboratory or anatomic pathology lab preferred.
• California Phlebotomy Certification - CPTI or CPTII required; BLS certification must be obtained and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Answers and screens or transfers telephone calls.
• Performs venipuncture using standard techniques for patients of all ages.
• Obtains specimens accurately and efficiently; procures other clinical specimens as required.
• Maintains safety and follows hospital/department policies.
• Labels specimens properly and completes paperwork for clinical assay.
• Processes specimens according to laboratory procedures to ensure timely results.
• Assists in reporting lab results and communicates findings to appropriate personnel.
• Draws blood from inpatients, outpatients, and ER patients as needed.
• Maintains competency and credentialing files; performs lab clerical duties as needed.
• Trains and supports lab staff; handles supplies and maintains stocked work areas.
