Job summary

VEG ER for Pets is seeking a Per Diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced team in Missouri. You will support triage, patient care, and coordination with veterinarians and technicians, learning on the job and growing through structured training pathways.

The role offers night and weekend availability, a welcoming team, and opportunities to gain hands-on experience in CPR, anesthesia support, ultrasound, and catheterization as you progress in your career.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of EMR software.
• Excellent communicator with pet parents and team.
• Able to stand for long hours and lift up to 25 kg (40 kg with assistance).
• Willing to work nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care and diagnostics.
• Work with credentialed techs and vets on anesthesia and sedation.
• Set up and monitor IV fluids, blood transfusions and meds.
• Support care in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Join patient rounds for continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities via guided training.
