Job summary

City of Temple, TX seeks an experienced HR Generalist to support staffing, onboarding, leave management, compensation, employee relations, and compliance. You will serve as the primary contact for employees and managers.

In this role, you will collaborate with departments, assist in recruitment, prepare HR documents, maintain HRIS records, and ensure policy adherence and employment law compliance. This position reports to the People Operations team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is required.
• Two (2) years of human resources experience with exposure to multiple HR functional areas is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Serves as primary contact for employees and managers.
• Develops strong working relationship with supported departments.
• Guides and supports managers in employee relations matters, policy clarifications, and makes recommendations.
• Supports recruiting processes to include posting vacancies, processing applicants, responds to applicants, conducts pre-employment screenings, and onboarding.
• Reviews employee record changes in HRIS and approves workflow entries submitted by department ensuring adherence to compensation policies.
• Prepares and issues HR documents, including offer letters, disciplinary notices, and other assigned correspondence, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
• Receives, reviews, and processes leave requests for Workers Compensation, FMLA, Military Leave, and other applicable leave types.
• Verifies eligibility, determines leave approval, calculates leave duration, and coordinates with Workers Compensation and ADA as required.
• Participates in annual compensation study processes as requested.
• Participates in Civil Services testing activities.
• Maintains and updates the employee’s electronic file in the designated document repository system.
• Gathers documentation and responds to unemployment claims.
• Continues to enhance employment law knowledge and employee relations skills.
• Ensures consistent application of City policies and stays current with federal, state, and local employment laws.
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
