About The Role
The role owns the day-to-day systems and programs that keep a growing workforce running: onboarding, HRIS data integrity, benefits administration, and compliance across state lines.
The position matters because scale breaks manual process — the specialist will build workflows, automate what can be automated, and give employees a consistently great experience from offer letter through offboarding.
Key Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end onboarding for new hires, including background checks, I-9/E-Verify compliance, equipment coordination, and first-week programming
- Administer the HRIS (Rippling, BambooHR, or Workday): maintain employee records, manage workflows, and audit data for accuracy
- Run benefits administration open enrollment, manage carrier escalations, and field employee questions on health, 401(k), and leave policies
- Process payroll inputs, track PTO and leave of absence requests, and partner with finance on month-end people-cost reconciliation
- Maintain multi-state employment compliance, including new-hire registrations, poster requirements, and EEO/OSHA reporting
- Build and document people-operations playbooks and self-serve resources to reduce ad-hoc tickets
- Support performance review cycles, engagement surveys, and quarterly headcount reporting for leadership
What We Are Looking For
- 3-6 years of people operations, HR generalist, or HR coordinator experience, ideally at a scaling technology company
- Hands-on expertise with at least one modern HRIS (Rippling, BambooHR, Gusto, or Workday)
- Working knowledge of multi-state employment law basics: I-9/E-Verify, FMLA, ADA, wage-and-hour requirements
- Experience running onboarding programs and benefits administration end-to-end
- Strong operational rigor: comfortable with Google Sheets/Excel modeling, documentation, and process automation
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent certification a plus; bachelor's degree in HR, business, or related field preferred
- Bonus: experience with equity administration (Carta), payroll systems (Gusto, ADP), or building people-ops programs from scratch at a Series A-C startup
