People Operations Lead: HRIS, Benefits & Onboarding

Job summary

Medium is seeking a People Operations Lead to own HR systems and processes across the full employee lifecycle. You will oversee HRIS administration, benefits, performance process infrastructure, and the overall employee experience.

You will partner with senior leadership to scale people processes, ensure compliance, and maintain a strong employee experience as the company grows, based in Austin with relocation possible.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in people operations or HR operations
• Hands-on HRIS administration experience
• Experience with benefits administration and open enrollment
• Experience partnering with legal and finance teams is a plus

Responsibilities

• Own onboarding end-to-end: letters, paperwork, access coordination and first-week experience
• Serve as primary HRIS system administrator; maintain data integrity and audits
• Manage outside benefits consultants; renewals and open enrollment
• Partner with the C‑Suite to build and maintain performance review processes and records
• Maintain employee handbook, HR policies, and state compliance with legal teams
• Coordinate equity issuances with CFO and legal
• Oversee relocation, visa filings, background checks, and DOE data compliance
• Coordinate offboarding with legal, IT, and operations
• Lead employee experience initiatives: monthly team events and company communications
• Explain benefits, compensation, and equity during hiring; communicate equity opportunity
• Establish timekeeping processes for hourly employees with CFO
• Other duties as assigned
