Job summary

Blank Park Zoo is seeking a People & Culture Specialist to support recruiting, performance management, compliance, orientation and training, compensation, safety and diversity initiatives. This onsite role in Des Moines, IA strengthens manager effectiveness and the employee experience while handling day-to-day HR operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development.
• Three years of Human Resources experience preferred.
• Specialized training in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, organization development, employee relations, safety, training, and preventative labor relations preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Suite (or ability to obtain).
• Previous HR/Payroll systems experience (or ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain partnerships across all levels of the organization to support an engaged, high-performing workforce.
• Advise managers and employees on conflict resolution, performance management, and professional development; conduct investigations.
• Lead recruiting and hiring efforts and build relationships with universities, professional organizations, and community resources.
• Coordinate training and professional development programs, including orientation and leadership development.
• Oversee compliance with governmental and labor laws, OSHA data, and safety programs.
• Communicate HR policies and programs to management and staff.
