Job summary

Ashton North LLC in Brooklyn, NY is seeking an HR Manager to provide strategic and hands-on human resources support across programs. This role manages employee relations, performance management, compliance, compensation, and HR operations in alignment with nonprofit best practices and employment laws.

You will collaborate with the Chief Human Resources Officer, HR team, program directors, and staff to foster an inclusive, mission-driven workplace while ensuring consistent HR practices

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Master’s degree or PHR/SPHR preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience.
• Prior nonprofit, social services, or community-based experience preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
• Knowledge of policy development, implementation, and interpretation related to conduct, discipline, and workplace safety.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Skilled in handling employee relations issues and conflict resolution.
• Proficiency with HRIS systems and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Ensure employee compliance with policies and procedures.
• Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and conflicts.
• Coach and counsel management on employee relations and disciplinary actions.
• Conduct internal investigations as needed.
• Foster an inclusive, mission-driven workplace culture.
• Support engagement initiatives and retention strategies.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and funder regulations.
• Coordinate performance reviews and development plans with managers.
• Oversee personnel records, background checks, and HRIS data integrity.
• Generate HR reports and analytics for leadership and Board.
• Support training and employee wellness aligned with the mission.
• Advise leadership on organizational development and workforce planning.
