La Crosse County seeks a Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery services for participants navigating housing and wellness goals. The role leverages lived experience to mentor peers, build trust, and connect them with community resources within Pathways.

Expect collaboration with social workers and clinicians in a trauma-informed framework. Evening and weekend scheduling may be required; the position focuses on supporting housing transitions and sustaining housing for program participants,

Qualifications

  • Must have lived experience with homelessness and/or mental health/substance use.
  • Preference for at least one year of experience with homelessness, housing instability, mental health, and/or substance use recovery.
  • Certification: Wisconsin Certified Peer Support Specialist, Certified Peer Recovery Coach, or be eligible to obtain certification.
  • Valid driver's license and access to transportation for city and rural travel.
  • Scheduling may include evenings and weekends; typical hours are Monday–Friday 8:00–4:30 or 2:00–10:00.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Direct Recovery Support in mental health and substance use recovery in individual and group settings.
  • Use lived experience to mentor and inspire hope and recovery.
  • Build empowering relationships and trust with peers; collaborate with social workers and clinicians.
  • Inspire hope for housing stability and overall wellness; promote self-determination.
  • Promote trauma-informed practices and crisis support; connect peers to resources.
  • Document interactions and progress in required systems to ensure compliance and funding.
