Job summary

Wyandot, Inc. is seeking a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our Supportive Housing Team. The role focuses on individuals with mental health challenges, using lived experience to inspire hope and promote recovery.

You will provide direct community-based support, develop skills, and connect clients with resources. Based at a central office with travel to regional locations, you will document progress, collaborate with families and agencies, and support empowerment and wellness for clients

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED.
• Complete Certified Peer Support Training and the Peer Support Certification exam within 6 months of employment
• Experience: Have a minimum of one year in recovery with sobriety and free of psychiatric hospital admissions for two years
• The provider must self-identify as a former primary consumer of behavioral healthcare services and lived experience with addiction recovery.

Responsibilities

• Engage individuals with a dual diagnosis in recovery plans and build hopeful relationships.
• Coach individuals in positive skill-building techniques for life management.
• Recognize and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences.
• Help others succeed by displaying strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals with mental illness and addiction.
• Effectively manage conflict and promote growth in clients.
• Model coping techniques and self-help strategies.
• Respect each individual's recovery experience.
• Assist clients in initiating and maintaining relationships with external resources.
• Complete documentation and reporting on time.
• Interact positively with team members and participate in supervision and meetings.
• Travel regularly to regional locations to provide direct care and support.
