Job summary

Wyandot BHN seeks a dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our Supportive Housing Team. The role emphasizes using lived experience to support consumers in the community, helping them identify skills, goals, and resources for wellness.

Responsibilities include engaging clients in recovery plans, skill-building, and maintaining documentation, with regular travel within the region to provide direct care and support.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; behavioral healthcare study a plus.
• Must complete Certified Peer Support Training and Peer Support Certification within 6 months of employment.
• Minimum one year in recovery with sobriety; self-identify as a former consumer of behavioral health services.

Responsibilities

• Engage individuals with dual diagnosis in recovery plans and interventions to address mental health symptoms and substance use.
• Train and coach individuals in positive skill-building techniques for life management.
• Recognize and respect cultural and ethnic differences.
• Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to work with persons with severe mental illness and addiction.
• Effectively manage conflict, promote growth, and inspire client development.
• Model coping techniques and self-help strategies.
• Value and respect each client's recovery experience.
• Assist clients in initiating and maintaining relationships with other agencies and resources.
• Complete all documentation and reporting thoroughly and on time.
• Collaborate with team and participate in supervision and meetings.
• Regularly travel to other locations and transport clients in the region, providing direct care as needed.
