Job summary

Shriners Children\'s is seeking a per diem Surgery Scheduler / Appointment Coordinator to manage pediatric surgical scheduling with a focus on accuracy and timeliness. You will collaborate with physicians, care managers, and external centers to ensure smooth pre-op and post-op appointments and verify insurance details.

The role requires strong customer service, experience with scheduling software (Epic preferred), and the ability to support families throughout the process.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Communicate surgical dates, prep instructions, and follow-up details to families and referring providers.
• Coordinate with care teams, physicians, and anesthesia to confirm availability and block utilization.
• Respond to scheduling inquiries and resolve conflicts with clinic and surgery staff.
• Schedule all surgical cases, pre-op, post-op, and related appointments in Epic or other EMR systems.
• Maintain waitlists, appointment logs, and arrival lists.
• Verify and update patient demographics, insurance, referrals, and guardianship information.
• Prepare and distribute patient correspondence and surgery schedules in a timely and professional manner.
• Enter surgical supply needs and notify staff of equipment coordination requirements.
• Provide backup support to registration and intake areas when necessary.
• Participate in training to maintain proficiency in scheduling systems and hospital protocols.
• Engage in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives to enhance workflow and patient experience.
