Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a Polysomnographic Technician I for the Sleep Medicine Center. This entry-to-mid level role performs comprehensive sleep testing analysis and related interventions under supervision, with responsibility for administrative tasks as needed.

3x12-hour night shifts (6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). You will calibrate equipment, assist with PAP fittings, score sleep stages and events, and ensure data quality following BRPT guidelines.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; BRPT credential preferred.
  • Two years of college or equivalents preferred, or 1-2 years of polysomnography experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of a sleep technology program, associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited facility.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated effective written and spoken communication skills.
  • Ability to move machines and patients weighing in excess of 25 pounds.
  • BRPT standards of Conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews history, physical information, medication, procedure request, and study protocol.
  • Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment; selects amplifier settings and analyzes data.
  • Explains test procedures and orients patients/families using age-appropriate guidelines.
  • Performs physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Performs data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality; documents artifacts.
  • Performs routine PAP mask fitting.
  • Documents observations including sleep stages and events to facilitate scoring and interpretation.
  • Implements interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs (e.g., PAP, oxygen).
  • Assists with scoring sleep/wake stages and clinical events using AASM standards.
  • Adapts knowledge to different testing situations within polysomnography.
