Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago seeks an Orthopaedic Technician to support the orthopaedic team.

The role involves assisting surgeons, residents and nursing staff with casts, splints and dressings, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment in Lincoln Park with some travel to satellite locations. The position expects at least 16 hours per week and predominantly works at the Lincoln Park outpatient center.

Qualifications

• A high school education is required.
• Two years of college or technical school preferred.
• Certification by the National Board of Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists preferred.
• Basic Life Support Certification required.
• A minimum of two years of experience in a hospital splint or cast room or in an Orthopedic Physician’s office is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply patient care needs for neonatal to adult patients in growth and development.
• Apply and assist in the application and removal of body casts.
• Perform dressing changes and removal of sutures and pins using aseptic technique.
• Order and manage clinic supplies and equipment inventory.
• Document changes in care plans in EMR or paper charts.
• Train residents and students on cast/splint procedures.
• Assist with clinic procedures as requested by the orthopaedic surgeon.
