Job summary

UCSF Health is seeking a Hospital Unit Service Coordinator (HUSC) for UCSF Mission Bay for a 3-month assignment, with potential extension. The role supports patient care operations by handling calls, charts, and discharge tasks in a fast-paced unit.

Shift options include 3:00 p.m.–11:30 p.m. (weekdays, weekends) and occasional 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. as needed. You will work with the Charge Nurse and care team to route information, update records, and ensure timely communications.

Responsibilities

• Answer unit telephone calls and respond to incoming requests.
• Support management of patient call lights and route to nursing staff.
• Assign nurses to phones within Responder 5 for routing.
• Maintain communication with Charge Nurse and care team.
• Update the charge report and unit-based resources.
• Identify on-call physicians and communicate information.
• Assemble, organize, and prepare patient charts.
• Support discharge processes and prepare records.
• Maintain bed assignments, transfers, and discharges data.
• Relay messages to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
• Notify staff when patients arrive on the unit.
• Communicate physicians' orders to nursing staff.
• Transcribe routine and STAT orders; clarify unclear orders.
• Schedule procedures, tests, and X-rays; minimize conflicts.
• Complete bed-control functions and admissions/discharges data.
• Use UCSF systems to access patient information.
• Maintain forms, supplies, and unit equipment.
• Protect patient and staff confidentiality per policy.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and functional work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
