Job summary

TTUHSC seeks a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to join the pediatric inpatient unit, delivering family-centered care to children with hematologic and oncologic conditions. The NP collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to manage admissions, treatment plans, and discharge processes.

Responsibilities include education for families, care coordination across services, and contributing to quality improvement. Requires TX RN license and NP certification, with BLS/PALS preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have RN license in TX and NP certification recognized by TX Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Experience with chemotherapy and supportive care protocols is preferred.
  • At least 2 years in pediatrics, hematology, or oncology is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct clinical care to pediatric hematology/oncology patients in inpatient unit.
  • Develop individualized care plans and coordinate inpatient admissions and discharges.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, and side effects.

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

The Nurse Practitioner will function within University MedicalCenter pediatric inpatient unit, delivering comprehensive,family-centered care to pediatric patients with hematologic andoncologic conditions in a multidisciplinary inpatient setting. As akey member of the cancer center’s collaborative care team, the NPwill provide expert patient-centered management and compassionatesupport to children and their families navigating complex medicaljourneys. Provides primary care as part of a health care team in anambulatory setting in a particular discipline. Provides patienteducation and counseling as well as physical assessment. Mayparticipate in teaching programs for students and other studentresidents. Work is performed under usual clinic conditions andrequires a high degree of contact with patients, families, andother clinic personnel and outside professionals. Some positions inthe classification require travel to outreach clinics and homevisits, and participation in educational efforts and specialprograms that occur outside of normal working hours.

Major/Essential Functions
  • On-Call Coverage at University Medical Center’s pediatric inpatientunit.
  • Provide direct clinical care to pediatric hematology and oncologypatients at the University Medical Center pediatric inpatientunit.
  • Manage inpatient admissions, consults, and discharge. Developindividualized care plans and ensure continuity and safetythroughout treatment.
  • Coordinate and monitor inpatient infusion services; remainavailable for consults at both hospitals.
  • Ensure patients' charts are kept up-to-date and timely followingpolicy requirements.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, medication side effects, and care plans.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and alliedhealth professionals to deliver holistic, team-based care.
  • Document all clinical encounters promptly and accurately in theelectronic medical record (EMR).
  • Actively participate in care team meetings, continuing education, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Demonstrate strong communication, organizational, andinterpersonal skills.
  • Thrive in an inpatient setting with rotating coverage at UMC,working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Assist and/or perform spinal taps, intrathecal chemotherapy, andbone marrow sampling. Proper training and continuous oversight willbe provided.
