Job summary

UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA seeks an ED Observation Assistant to support patient care in the Emergency Department Pediatrics unit. You will perform constant observation, assist patients with safety, and help the nursing team monitor and de-escalate patients as directed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Must complete de-escalation training.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver certification is required.
• Strong English communication and interpersonal skills are required.
• Ability to assist in physical restraints when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation of high-risk ED patients.
• Assist patients with undressing and securing belongings.
• Monitor patients and perform safety checks every 15 minutes.
• Escort and supervise patients in bathrooms as directed by RN/MD.
• Document patient behavior and provide handoff to oncoming staff.
