Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an Observation Assistant for the 11p-7a night shift, working 32 hours per week in the Emergency Room Pediatrics unit. You will provide constant observation for high‑risk patients, assist with safety checks, and support nursing staff in patient care and environmental safety.

Required are a high school diploma and current BLS/Heart Saver certification, plus strong English communication, de‑escalation training, and good interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Must be able to complete de-escalation training.
• Current Basic Life Support or Heart Saver certification.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English with good interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation of high‑risk patients as assigned by the RN
• Assist patients with undressing and securing belongings according to unit policy
• Monitor patient safety checks and report any unsafe behavior to the RN
• Escort and supervise patients in bathroom as directed by RN; assist with meals and comfort
• Use de-escalation techniques; participate in restraints as directed and trained
• Document patient behavior and safety checks in the chart; hand off to oncoming staff
