Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking an Observation Assistant in the Emergency Department to monitor high-risk patients and support nurses with safety checks, environmental safety, and de-escalation as needed. You will participate in restraints under supervision and document observations for care continuity.

The position emphasizes teamwork, attention to safety, and compassionate patient care in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Requires reading/writing and effective English communication.
• Able to remain calm under stress and emergencies.
• Ability to assist in physical restraints under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Provide constant observation for high-risk patients as assigned by RN.
• Perform safety checks and environmental safety tasks at shift start and between discharges.
• Assist with patient mobility, meals, and comfort while following safety policies.
• Notify RN of changes in patient condition and requests for assistance.
• Document patient behavior and safety checks in the chart for care continuity.
