Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Assistant staff to support direct and indirect patient care under RN supervision. The role emphasizes family-centered care and safety, with rotating shifts and a 12-hour weekly schedule.

Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, basic tests, vital signs, and transport of patients and specimens, while maintaining a clean and safe environment and reporting concerns promptly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in direct patient care with basic physical care per RN guidance.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and bed making.
• Transport patients and specimens per policy.
• Perform basic glucose monitoring, urine/stool testing as allowed.
• Perform routine phlebotomy services excluding line draws.
• Record vital signs and weights per policy.
• Provide respiratory support and encourage incentive spirometry.
• Report patient concerns to the RN immediately.
