Job summary

UAB Medicine's Wound Care team in Clanton, AL, is seeking a patient-focused Care Assistant to join on a PRN rotating basis. In this role, you will support clinical and non-clinical care under supervision, help patients with ambulation and daily activities, and assist with basic procedures and vital signs.

The position emphasizes teamwork with nursing staff, adherence to safety protocols, and compassionate care for diverse patient needs in a hospital setting.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• High school diploma equivalency or 1 year of relevant experience.
• Experience assisting with basic patient care and activities of daily living.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation and daily activities, including helping to their vehicles if needed.
• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Report changes to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean and equipment maintained.
• Assist with procedures such as oxygen setup, catheter care, pulse oximetry, and EKGs as directed.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

• Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.
• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
