Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Patient Care Assistant to perform basic clinical and non-clinical tasks under supervision. This PRN position requires a weekend shift once per month and work at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham.

Responsibilities include assisting with ambulation, ADLs, reporting changes, maintaining clean rooms, assisting with oxygen setup and other routine duties, and recording vitals. Licensure: BLS within 30 days; High School diploma or equivalent required.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider required within 1 month (30 days) of hire date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary and help them to a recliner or bed; assist dismissed patients to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and personal care.
• Report findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff; document necessary records.
• Keep patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical patient care duties directed by staff nurse (oxygen setup, Foley care, pulse oximetry, specimen collection, EKGs).
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
