Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking a Night Shift Patient Care Assistant to support the MedSurg team in 3 South Medical. You’ll perform basic patient care activities under supervision, assist with mobility, daily living, and vital signs, and help maintain clean patient rooms.

This role requires BLS certification within 30 days and a high school diploma or equivalent or related experience. On-site position with benefits and opportunities in a large, mission-driven health system.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 month of hire date; American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation and activities of daily living.
• Tend to personal care and help patients to rooms, bathrooms, and to vehicles when discharge occurs.
• Report changes in patient conditions to nursing staff and document records.
• Keep patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintain medical equipment.
• Perform technical duties as directed (oxygen setup, catheter care, vital signs, EKGs).
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs/outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Perform basic clinical and non-clinical patient care activities under supervision.

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
