Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL is seeking an administrative assistant to support a clinical area in the 5 South Tower Orthopedics department. Duties include greeting patients, routing calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining patient charts.

You will handle clerical tasks, coordinate meetings, manage timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems, and assist physicians and clinicians with order entry and discharge processes.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider preferred (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted).
• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable job specific experience required.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and perform other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointments and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedule meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.
