Job summary

California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) is seeking a Payroll Technician II to provide payroll and HR support for CSULB and partner campuses. You will coordinate a variety of payroll activities, ensure compliance with CSU policies, and collaborate with multiple departments to deliver accurate and timely transactions.

The role requires strong analytical and organizational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Qualifications

• Two years of payroll/personnel document processing experience.
• Bachelor's degree in related field preferred.
• Remote work is possible 1 day per week; on-site 4–5 days.
• Ability to learn payroll software and protect confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll across CSULB and partner campuses; handle direct deposit issues, student hiring spreadsheets, fee waiver taxation, moving/relocation expenses, escheatment check coordination, and backup for manual check requests and stop payments.
• Backup for Workers' Compensation & Unemployment administration; coordinate with medical providers and ensure timely unemployment claims processing.
• Backup AR processes; oversee year-end submission to Franchise Tax Board and ensure compliance with state rules.
• Assist with fringe tax reporting and CAT Leave donation processing.
• Coordinate CAT Leave donations with IT, HR, Payroll to ensure accurate processing.
• Process monthly paychecks with Cashier's Office and communicate with employees on pickup.
