Job summary

Sanford Rose-JFS Partners is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist to join a growing construction organization on a temporary-to-hire basis. This role supports a large field-based workforce, processes weekly payroll across multiple entities, and ensures accuracy with time data and certified payroll requirements.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of payroll experience, strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/PivotTables), and familiarity with HeavyJob and E1.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on payroll experience preferred.
• Certified payroll experience is required; ideally 2-3 years, although candidates with at least 1 year of certified payroll experience will be considered.
• Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP and PivotTables; SUMIF is a plus.
• Ability to work confidently across multiple spreadsheets and large amounts of payroll data.
• E1 experience is a plus.
• Oracle or Oracle Fusion experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Comfortable learning new payroll systems and working through complex/manual processes.
• Strong communication skills and a people-oriented personality, with the ability to interact effectively with field employees.
• Construction, government contracting, or field-based workforce experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll for a large employee population across multiple company entities.
• Review and verify employee time for accuracy prior to payroll processing.
• Work with field timekeeping information and payroll data using systems including HeavyJob and E1.
• Support payroll for approximately 550-700 employees, with the potential for the scope to grow.
• Support certified payroll associated with government and contract projects.
• Work with employee per diem information associated with field assignments.
• Learn and eventually take ownership of the company's payroll processes while serving as a backup to the Payroll Manager.
• Work within a highly manual payroll environment while helping identify opportunities to simplify and streamline processes.
• Communicate directly with field employees and assist with payroll-related questions and issues.

This is an opportunity to join a small, collaborative payroll team supporting a large field-based workforce, with the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as you become established in the role. The ideal candidate is someone who genuinely knows payroll, is comfortable working through a detailed and sometimes manual process, and enjoys being the person others can rely on when payroll needs to be right. Certified payroll experience is particularly important due to the company's government and contract work.
