Staffmark Group is seeking a Payroll Specialist in Lafayette, LA to handle high-volume, multi-state payroll processing. You will ensure timely, accurate payments while complying with all payroll regulations and maintaining precise records.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred but not required.
• 3–5+ years of experience processing high-volume payroll.
• Experience managing payroll across multiple states with accurate, on-time payments.
• Working knowledge of payroll accounting, reconciliations, and general ledger coding.
• Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) and data reconciliation.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle payroll for a high-volume, multi-state employee population on a weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly basis.
• Ensure payrolls are processed accurately and on schedule while staying compliant with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Review, audit, and reconcile payroll data including earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefits.
• Maintain employee payroll records, tax withholdings, direct deposits, and related information.
• Prepare and reconcile payroll journal entries and code transactions to the general ledger.
• Collaborate with Accounting to reconcile payroll accounts and support month-end/year-end close.
• Assist with payroll tax reporting, W-2 processing, and annual payroll audits.
• Monitor wage/hour law compliance and multi-state tax regulations; adapt to changing business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree inAccounting, Finance, BusinessAdministration, or relatedfield preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Payroll Professional(CPP) designation isa plus.

Job Duties

• Process full-cyclepayroll for ahigh-volume, multi-state employee populationon a weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly basis.

• Partner with theAccounting team toreconcile payroll accounts, resolve discrepancies,and support month-end and year-end close activities.


• Assist with payrolltax reporting, W-2 processing, quarter-end reconciliations, andannual payroll audits.


• Monitor and ensurecompliance with wageand hour laws, multi-state taxregulations, and companypolicies.


• Research and resolvepayroll discrepancies andrespond to employeepayroll inquiries ina timely andprofessional manner.


• Collaborate with HumanResources, Finance, andBenefits teams toensure accurate employeedata and payrollchanges.


• Support payroll systemenhancements, process improvements, and implementation ofbest practices asthe organization continuesto grow.


• Maintain confidentialityof sensitive employeeand payroll information.
