Job summary

LHH Recruitment Solutions is assisting a growing construction organization in Walnut Creek, CA to recruit an Accounts Payable Supervisor. This leadership role focuses on owning AP operations, supervising staff, and strengthening controls to support audits and operational excellence.

You will manage daily AP activities, mentor a team, handle vendor relationships, and collaborate with Project Management and Operations to resolve issues. Union/construction experience is required for success.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Accounts Payable experience.
• Experience supervising or leading Accounts Payable teams.
• Construction accounting experience, including subcontractor payments and job cost environments.
• Strong understanding of AP controls, reconciliations, and audit support.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day Accounts Payable function and ensure timely, accurate processing of invoices and payments.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop Accounts Payable staff.
• Manage AP workflows, approval processes, payment runs, and vendor relationships.
• Oversee subcontractor payments and compliance requirements.
• Review and maintain lien waivers, insurance certificates, and supporting documentation.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Operations teams to resolve payment, coding, and compliance issues.
• Support annual audits by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and required documentation.
• Monitor AP aging and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and controls.
• Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.
• Drive process improvement initiatives and recommend solutions to enhance productivity and accuracy.
• Serve as a key communication bridge between Accounting, Project Teams, and leadership.

About the Opportunity

Our client, a growing construction organization, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Supervisor to lead and optimize the Accounts Payable function. This newly created leadership role offers the opportunity to take ownership of AP operations, supervise a team, strengthen internal controls, support audit activities, and partner closely with Accounting, Project Management, and Operations teams.
