Job summary

Growth Operators is seeking a Payroll Administrator/Consultant to handle end-to-end payroll for multiple clients, including multi-state processing and compliance. You’ll audit changes, support GL entries, and serve as a primary payroll contact for employees and managers.

The role offers on-site and remote work options with travel to the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area as needed, and a pay range of $35–$45 per hour. Prior consulting experience and CPP/FPC are a plus.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience, including multi-state payroll.
• Strong working knowledge of payroll tax, wage and hour laws, and payroll accounting.
• Experience with payroll, HRIS and timekeeping systems (ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, UKG, Paychex, etc.).
• High proficiency in MS Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations).
• Ability to use independent judgment to manage the priorities and payroll deadlines of multiple clients.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills and a commitment to confidentiality.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment with clients and internal teams.
• Must be able to spend substantial time in the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN area for onsite client work as needed.

Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end payroll for multiple clients across weekly, biweekly and semi-monthly cycles.
• Enter and audit payroll changes such as new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, deductions, garnishments, bonuses, commissions and PTO accruals.
• Perform pre- and post-payroll audits and reviews payroll registers. Support GL reconciliation and payroll journal entries.
• Manage payroll tax compliance, including federal, state and local withholding, multi-state setups, quarterly and annual filings, W-2s, and agency notices.
• Reconcile benefit and retirement plan deductions and remittances with carriers and providers.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers with payroll questions and requests.
• Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws including MN Paid Leave.
• Prepare payroll reporting and analysis for client leadership, auditors and Finance teams.
• Support projects such as payroll system implementations, year-end close, process improvements and M&A payroll integrations.
• Document payroll procedures and build repeatable processes for clients.
