Job summary

Carroll County Government is seeking a Payroll Specialist to assist with payroll operations under the Comptroller - Payroll. You will process payroll, respond to staff inquiries, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and tax obligations.

Qualifications include an Associate degree or two years of college and 3+ years of related experience; a comparable substitute is acceptable. The role includes occasional overtime and limited hybrid telework, with full-time hours.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or two years of college required or equivalent experience.
  • Three or more years of related experience preferred.
  • Comparable education/experience may substitute the minimum requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Compile and review payroll data and input into payroll system.
  • Audit payroll data and resolve discrepancies for accurate posting.
  • Process payroll and related forms for completeness and accuracy.
  • Interpret federal and state laws for W-2 and multi-state tax forms.
  • Interact with federal/state agencies on compensation and deductions.
  • Respond to routine payroll inquiries from staff and apply regulations.
  • Compile reports for management and government, including biweekly gross-to-net records.
  • Support department goals and seek opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Collaborate with peers to maintain a productive work environment.
  • Demonstrate integrity and fiscal responsibility.
