Now Hiring: Payroll Clerk
Location:Springfield, MA
Schedule:Full-time | Monday–Friday
Pay:$27.50 per hour

First Student is seeking aPayroll Clerkto support our Springfield location. In this role, you'll assist the Contract Manager with day-to-day payroll responsibilities, maintain accurate employee records, and help ensure smooth clerical and accounting operations. This is a great opportunity for someone detail-oriented, organized, and ready to contribute to a mission-driven team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process new hire files and submit completed documentation for approval and regional processing

  • Calculate and input payroll accurately for drivers and staff

  • Track attendance for permanent part-time employees and maintain driver seniority records

  • Assist with benefits enrollment and clerical/accounting support

  • Monitor and verify overtime and standard hours to support cost management

  • Answer phones, handle mail, and maintain office supply inventory

  • Perform additional administrative duties as needed

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience and Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and 10-key data entry

  • Self-starter with leadership qualities

  • Previous payroll or administrative experience preferred
