Job summary

AOI in Sugar Land, TX is seeking an HR Payroll Clerk to support accurate and timely payroll processing by handling routine, transaction-heavy tasks and acting as the first review point for payroll while assisting the Payroll Coordinator.

You will review timekeeping, enter corrections, assist with new hires and terminations, maintain confidential records, and help with audits and reporting, ensuring compliance with SOPs and internal controls.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or relevant coursework preferred.
• 1-2 years payroll, timekeeping, HR admin, accounting support or related experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of payroll/timekeeping systems; ADP Workforce Now experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Excel and ability to work accurately with reports and payroll data.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to follow up with employees and managers.

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation and processing of non-exempt payroll per schedules and procedures.
• Review timecards for Payclass, schedule, and lunch deduction alignment.
• Identify missing punches, approvals, or time-off entries; run weekly exception reports.
• Enter approved timecard corrections and updates.
• Assist with payroll setup for new hires and routine terminations; review convert folders.
• Serve as first contact for routine payroll inquiries and escalate complex issues.
• Run preliminary payroll reports and review data for accuracy.
• Prepare payroll data, notes, and exception summaries for Coordinator review.
• Assist with routine payroll audits, post-payroll reporting, and record maintenance.
• Maintain confidential payroll records and comply with SOPs and controls.
• Support special payroll projects, audits, and process-improvement initiatives.
